Horses and friends...
This is a photo of my friend, Mags, taken two days ago. She is such a wonderful lady and always so much fun to be with. We went to Seattle on Wednesday and walked, talked, walked, ate, talked, ate, walked, talked and enjoyed our time together.
Magda and I became acquainted ten and a half years ago when her husband, Ron, passed away. She and I had spoken over the phone several times during the summer, when Ron, who had ocular melanoma, was terminally ill. I was one of the prayer line phone partners and so when she called for prayers, we prayed and chatted and got to know one another. The morning that Ron died, she called and I went over to her home to be with her and their family members.
Now, Magda and I are very similar in that we have never met a stranger. When we met that difficult morning, it was as though she and I had known one another all of our lives.
She was born in Alexandria, Egypt; to an Egyptian father and a Greek mother. She and her family are Coptic Christians and she, along with her sister and brother were educated in Alexandria. Magda earned her masters degree in Pediatrics, and is a doctor, but not practicing at this time.
She met her beloved Ron through her sister, a nurse, and theirs was a true love story that culminated in marriage and their life, living in Saudi Arabia, Korea and the United States was rich and full. The pulled a travel trailer behind their SUV and crossed the United States one year (a dream of mine), and they settled down in the little town of Allyn.
Ron passed away when they had been married a mere sixteen years. It was a devastating loss - he was way too young to die and she was way too young to be a widow.
But, widow she was. During the next two years, our lives were woven together as tapestry - our daily, sometimes several times daily, telephone calls kept us involved in one another's lives. We spent time together and we knew our hearts would be forever entwined.
Although we no longer have daily telephone contact, we still get together on average twice a year for a l-o-n-g day in which we can just TALK...oh yeah, and eat a little(who am I kidding?)...and TALK a lot. We never tire of talking with one another. . .and we pick up right where we left off -
Magda is one classy lady and I am so blessed to have her as my friend for life. Magda - I love you!
